BMWi gathers input from German stakeholders for the Work Plan 2021-2022

GPQI presented last year’s developments and promoted an open discussion on Industrie 4.0, data protection and Inmetro’s regulatory reform. The objective of the meeting was to collect topic suggestions and ideas for the Brazilian-German Work Plan 2021-2022.

On 23 August, the Preparatory Meeting for the 4th Annual Meeting took place online. It was hosted by the German Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy (Bundesministerium für Wirtschaft und Energie - BMWi). The meeting brought together representatives of German industry and quality infrastructure institutions, such as the German National Accreditation Body (DakkS), the German Institute for Standardisation (DIN e.V.), the German Commission for Electrotechnical, Electronic & Information Technologies in DIN and VDE (DKE), the Association of German Engineers (VDI), Conformity Assessment bodies (CABs). They discussed thematic priorities for the ongoing cooperation on quality infrastructure.


After a presentation by GPQI on current activities and achieved results of the German-Brazilian cooperation, stakeholders discussed their topic suggestions in three different groups: 1) Regulation and Conformity assessment by the Brazilian National Institute of Metrology, Quality and Technology (Inmetro); 2) Industrie 4.0 and further standardisation topics; and 3) medical devices and cooperation with the Secretariat of Competition and Competitiveness Advocacy (SEAE).


Inmetro’s Regulations and Conformity Assessment

During the discussion of the first group, the participants examined Inmetro’s new regulatory model, the conformity assessment mark (“selo”), which it implements, and the acceptance of international standards. New topics included, among others, certification schemes of organisational inventories and carbon emissions.

 

Industrie 4.0 and further standardisation topics in the spotlight

The second group welcomed achieved results of the cooperation on the Global Production Language and agreed to further exchange on international standards for Industrie 4.0. They also proposed to work on a new topic: smart electrification, appliances and routes for its implementation.

 

Medical devices and cooperation with the Secretariat of Competition and Competitiveness Advocacy (SEAE)

Within the third group, digital health was another potential topic suggested inside SEAE’s cooperation with the project. Stakeholders shared their visions on privacy regulations for the use of sensitive clinical data, potential for e-health innovation within Brazil’s universal health system (SUS) and challenges related to the regulation of artificial intelligence and IT security within digital health.

 

Next steps

The topics mentioned will form the basis for the elaboration of the 2021-2022 Work Plan by BMWi and the Brazilian Ministry for Economy. The Work Plan will be adopted during the Annual Meeting on 14 October.
