Promoting industrial communication in Brazil

Brazil

Dialogue matters

GPQI supports Brazil’s implementation of a global production language. To this end, GPQI and the German Mechanical Engineering Industry Association (Verband Deutscher Maschinen- und Anlagenbau - VDMA) created a Working Group on Open Platform Communications United Architecture (OPC UA). OPC UA is a set of data exchange standards for industrial communication – e.g. machine-to-machine communication.

Special focus is given to the OPC UA Companion Specifications of VDMA. These define what kind of information machines share and how they interpret data. Companion specifications improve machine-to-machine communication and allow machines to share data with other systems. They make it easier to integrate machines into an existing production environment. Companion specifications are important to global implementation of Industrie 4.0.

The new working group consists of Brazilian and German manufacturers, system integrators, end users and institutions for applied research. The group facilitates technical exchange and has adopted a joint workplan with outreach activities for the second half of 2021.
