Mexico approves new accreditation body
Mexico
On May 6, 2020, a new accreditation body was approved by the General Bureau of Standards (DGN, in Spanish).
Until 2020, and for 21 years, the Mexican Accreditation Body (Entidad Mexicana de Acreditación, EMA) was the only authorized accreditation entity in the country. Even though the Federal Law on Metrology and Standardization, which will soon be replaced by the Quality Infrastructure Law, has always allowed the possibility of having more than one accreditation body, this is the first time Mexico has made use of this option.
The new accreditation body is Mexicana de Acreditación MAAC, A.C., which has the purpose to provide accreditation services for certification bodies in accordance with the Mexican Standard NMX-EC-17021-1-IMNC-2016 (ISO/IEC 17021-1:2015). MAAC will specifically focus on those who provide management system certification services using the following Mexican standards:
- NMX-CC-9001-IMNC-2015 / ISO 9001:2015, Quality Management Sytems - Requirements.
- NMX-SAA-14001-IMNC-2015/ ISO 14001:2015, Environmental Management Systems - Requirements with guidance for use.
- NMX-SAST-45001-IMNC-2018 / ISO 45001:2018, Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems - Requirements with guidance for use.
