On 14 December 2020 and on 15 March 2021, GPQI China and the German Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers' Association (ZVEI), represented by Silke Sichter, co-organised online seminars on the China Compulsory Certification. In December 2020 Tao Mengying and Frieder Mecklenburg gave a presentation on the overall structure of the China Compulsory Certification (CCC) system. On 15 March 2021, Liliane Ronge, Tao Mengying and Frieder Mecklenburg this time focused on explosion-proof products (CCC Ex). Both online seminars served to provide an overview of the regulatory changes that took place for CCC in general and for explosion-proof electrical products since the introduction of the CCC Ex category as part of the CCC catalogue in 2018.

The second online seminar on CCC Ex first outlined how regulatory changes came about and how current processes and procedures could be interpreted. The second part of the workshop offered a comparison between different international systems: the CCC Ex system, the international conformity assessment scheme by International Electrotechnical Commission (IECEx System) and the EU regulatory framework requirements for Ex products (ATEX Directive). All three systems have the main objective of providing essential health and safety requirements but use different methods to achieve this objective. For German manufacturers, however, recent changes in CCC Ex have been resulting in technical barriers to trade. The presentations were informed by a large number of questions that had been submitted by the German business community in preparation of the online seminar.

In a third workshop end of March or in April 2021, the Chinese National Administration for Certification CNCA and the Chinese certification body CQM will be invited to respond to any questions about the CCC Ex system. We would like to thank all participants for their attention and active contribution, invite everyone to get involved and jointly contribute to the reduction of technical barriers to trade.
