The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has published a list of Indian Standards that are considered as critical in ensuring the safety and performance of essential medical supplies amid the Covid-19 pandemic. The list includes 14 key standards for personal protective equipment (PPE), infrared thermal readers and scanners, and ventilators. The respective standards are accessible online after entering relevant contact information (i.e. name, company, city, email ID and phone number).

The overview of standards and their availability online helps companies who are converting their production lines in setting up and accelerating the manufacturing of these essential products.

In early April 2020, the German Institute for Standardization (DIN) and the European standardisation bodies (CEN and CENELEC)  decided to make various standards for medical equipment available free of charge until further notice. This is intended to counteract the growing shortage of protective masks, gloves, and other products which many European countries are struggling with.
