17.06.2019, 18:00

The Claridges (Viceregal), New Delhi

India is one of the leading countries for manufacturing of vehicles and a growing automotive market. Ranked 6th in the world, it manufactures approximately 24 million vehicles of which 3.6 million vehicles are exported. India is the world’s number one market for two-wheelers, number three for the passenger car market, and number five for the commercial vehicle market.

With the goal to promote innovation, enhance safety, and support technical market access, Germany and India cooperate within the Indo-German Working Group on Quality Infrastructure on the various aspects of quality in the automotive sector: standards and technical regulations, homologation, and market surveillance.

We are delighted to invite you to participate in the event “Drive Forward Together: Indo–German Cooperation in the Automotive Sector”. Representatives from the German Embassy in New Delhi and the Indian Ministry for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution will officially launch the publication “Automobile and Component Exports to India: Overview of technical market access challenges for the German automotive industry in India”. The publication provides information to industry and private organisations from India and Germany on the regulatory landscape in India concerning the automotive sector. The publication also provides recommendations and way forward in key areas of technical market access for German automotive manufacturers. Electric mobility especially standards and regulations, which is of growing importance for India’s future transportation system will be another highlight of the event.

The event is organised by GIZ – the German Agency for International Cooperation – in cooperation with the German Embassy in New Delhi. GIZ was commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy to support the Indo-German cooperation as part of the Global Project Quality Infrastructure (GPQI). The study was conducted by GPQI in cooperation with the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA).
